Sleep tight little man

1
having six children is time consuming, exhausting, exhilarating, fun, rewarding, pretty much everything I had hoped being a dad would be.

So when it comes to bedtime and having that one on one time cuddling,  reading, listening and sharing those magic moments before their eyes close I’m all over it.

Although sometimes it can take take a lot longer than others and sometimes they fall asleep on you and you dare not move, on such an occasion my little exhausted man had me stuck in a corner bursting for a wee but daring not to

move as his sleep was so shallow.

So I turned over some words in my head, editing them reassembling and trying to remember so I could write them down when I had the opportunity to break free from his sleepy cuddle, which was 2 hrs late.

But in that hat time I wrote him this poem and we have since had it framed and written so Milo has it for life, a present from his dad.

Hope you enjoy it!

BEDTIME

I call out a cry,  dad the sandman’s not near.

I’m not ready for bed the daylights still

here.

He gathers he cuddles our hearts beat in time

He whispers so softly my favourite rhyme

I wriggle, I jiggle, I fight it’s not fair

His hand strokes my head gently

His arms wrapped around me like a giant cuddly bear

The warmth of his breath, the love in his touch

My eyes start to close,  his finger I clutch

Dreamland I go and to wondrous things

While dad stays and watches, to my peacefulness he clings

Could this be the last time a cuddle sleep brings?

He kisses me gently and promises

Son, you will never be to old for a cuddle and a kiss.

I love you my son,  sweet dreams please take care,  worry no more as come morning I still will be here.
